Microsoft to allegedly appeal UK's move on $75B merger today
Microsoft Corporation will be formally appealing the United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) decision to block its merger with Activision Blizzard, Inc., valued at $75 billion, Sky News reported on Wednesday. According to the media outlet, within a few hours, the tech giant will be filing a complaint with the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT).
Microsoft Vice-Chair Brad Smith commented that CMA's move "discourages technology investment and innovation in the United Kingdom," adding that it is disappointing "that after lengthy deliberations, this decision appears to reflect a flawed understanding of this market and the way the relevant cloud technology actually works."
The acquisition was previously approved by the European Commission.
