Eurozone inflation falls to 6.1% in May

Annual inflation in the euro area dropped to 6.1% in May from 7% in April, Eurostat said in a preliminary report on Thursday. The monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) is unchanged from April. The CPI excluding energy grew by 7% on a yearly basis and 0.3% month-on-month, while the core CPI, excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, added 5.3% from May 2022 and 0.2% from April.

Food, alcohol and tobacco are expected to have the highest annual inflation rate in May at 12.5%, followed by non-energy industrial goods at 5.8% and services at 5%. Energy price growth is expected to be in the negative territory in May, falling by 1.7%.
