Erdogan: Int'l team could probe Kakhovka incident

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed in a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky the creation of an international commission that would determine what caused the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), the former's communications office said on Wednesday.

Additionally, Erdogan suggested Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and the United Nations (UN) as members of the potential commission. In the same conversation, he reiterated Ankara is ready to "do its part" in ensuring Kiev and Moscow reached an agreement on the conflict in Ukraine and peace.

A report suggested the United States has information on Russia likely being behind the incident. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom said its intelligence is investigating the event. Russia rejected the claims it was responsible for the destruction and tried to pin the blame on Ukraine, describing what happened as a terrorist act.
