Trudeau arrives in Kiev
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a surprise visit to Kiev on Saturday, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland.
Trudeau began the trip by laying a wreath at a memorial wall at St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery to honor Ukrainians who lost their lives fighting for their country.
According to Ottawa, the visit was kept confidential until publicly announced, for security reasons. It marked Trudeau's second trip to Ukraine since Russia launched its military operation in the country in February of last year. He last visited the country in May 2022, when he reopened the Canadian Embassy in Kiev.
