US job openings at 9.58M in June, lowest since April 2021

Job openings in the United States changed slightly in June from the previous month, coming in at 9.58 million, the lowest level since April 2021, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Tuesday. The figure was roughly aligned with analysts' expectations and could suggest that the Fed's hikes are working.

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) said that the number of hires was little changed at 5.9 million, while the hires rate stood at 3.8%, also slightly unchanged compared with the previous report's figure.

The total separations or turnover rate was 3.6%, at 5.6 million in June. Quits fell by 295,000 to 3.8 million, while layoffs and discharges were little changed compared to May at 1.5 million.
