North Korea's food situation said to may have improved

North Korea's food situation may have got better as a result of a rise in crop harvest and imports, South Korea's news agency Yonhap reported on Tuesday citing a unification ministry official.

"There is a possible change in the North's food situations, as the country has boosted food imports and harvests of barley and wheat have significantly made progress," the source said.

The country has been experiencing severe food shortages due to the extended border closures and disruptions in its state-controlled food supply caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Russia has expressed readiness to provide food assistance, but Pyongyang insists that it can manage without foreign aid.
