US initial jobless claims down by 20,000 at 201,000

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending September 16 decreased by 20,000 compared to the previous week's revised rate to land at 201,000, the US Labor Department published on Thursday.

The 4-week moving average decreased by 7,750 compared to the previous week's revised average and reached 217,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 1.1% for the week ending September 9, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment was down by 21,000 week-on-week to hit 1,662,000. The 4-week moving average tumbled by 8,750 on a weekly basis to stand at 1,687,000.
