McCarthy: There's no time for Zelensky's address
United States House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy confirmed on Thursday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested to address a joint session of Congress.
However, there was no "time" for Zelensky to hold the speech before all lawmakers today, and Zelensky had already delivered an address to a joint session of Congress in December 2022, McCarthy told reporters. The Ukrainian leader is receiving the same treatment as prime ministers of the United Kingdom or Italy, McCarthy pointed out, adding that "this is a little busy week" in Congress due to the government funding talks.
"I don't know how we could slip [Zelensky's address] in such a short time," McCarthy stated, revealing that lawmakers will ask Zelensky in a regular meeting about "the plan for victory, where are we currently on the field, the accountability issues that a lot of members have questions."
