Europe closes lower after BoE's rate decision

Major European stock exchanges traded lower at the closing bell on Thursday as investors digested the latest interest rate decision by the Bank of England, with policymakers opting to keep it at the current level of 5.25%. In addition, the central banks of Turkey and Switzerland also revealed their decisions on monetary policy.

The Euro Stoxx 50 and the CAC 40 closed 1.48% and 1.59% lower respectively, as Hermes plummeted 5.85% and dragged both indexes down. The FTSE 100 fell by 0.69% with Ocado tumbling 19.87%. The DAX closed 1.33% lower, as BASF plunged 4.86%.

The euro was flat against the dollar at 5:28 pm CET, selling for $1.06618. In comparison, the pound was down 0.36% against the greenback to go for $1.22994 at the same time.
