Armenia: Russia 'failed' its peacekeeping in Karabakh

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday admitted that Yerevan bears its part of the responsibility for the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh region, but underscored that Russia's failure of peacekeeping mission in the region should not be ignored.

Namely, the prime minister pointed out during the extraordinary meeting of the country's Security Council that under the Nagorno-Karabakh 2020 ceasefire agreement, Moscow took on the responsibility to safeguard the Lachin Corridor and ensure the security of the local population in the area.

The prime minister emphasized that the latest escalation of tensions occurred because "peacekeepers" failed to agree to a "ceasefire" before the conflict started. "After all, we've all been warning about this, we were saying that Nagorno-Karabakh is blockaded by Azerbaijani military equipment. Why didn't this mediation take place back then," Pashinyan stated.
