Armenia call on UN to send mission to Karabakh
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan called on the United Nations to send an international mission to the ethnic Armenian enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijan amid fears for the population after the Azerbaijani military entered the region. Mirzoyan said the mission would "monitor and assess the human rights, humanitarian and security situation on the ground."
Mirzoyan addressed the UN General Assembly, saying that "we are at the brink of another failure" after the UN failed to prevent the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken also expressed concern for the estimated 120,000 ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh and called on Azerbaijan to respect their rights and freedoms.
