France: EU energy price mechanism to stay

French Environment Minister Christophe Bechu (pictured) assured on Tuesday that his country does not intend to leave the European Union's electricity price mechanism, without specifying what France will do to take "back control of power prices," as indicated the day earlier by President Emmanuel Macron.

In an interview with France Info radio, Bechu explained that resuming control over electricity prices does not mean abandoning the EU's power pricing mechanism, but rather that France will be able to set domestic prices under changed EU rules after it again assumes the role of an energy exporter.

The day before, Macron said that France would regain control of electricity prices from October until the end of the year after nationalizing the utility EDF and the nuclear fleet.
