Schumer says Senate nearing deal on stopgap funding

United States Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer revealed on Tuesday that the upper congressional chamber is nearing an agreement on the stopgap spending bill, expressing optimism that the deal could be announced "very soon."

"This week, the Senate will move first. Over the weekend, Senate Democrats and Republicans together worked in good faith to reach an agreement on a continuing resolution that will keep the government open beyond September 30," Schumer said on the Senate floor, underlining that the "temporary" resolution could serve as a "bridge" and allow the Congress to "fully" fund the federal government and spare American families from "the pain of a shutdown," while upholding support for Ukraine.

Schumer urged "reasonable" members of both congressional chambers to pass the "bridge continuing resolution."
