US durable goods orders up 0.2% in August

New orders for manufactured durable goods in the United States rose by 0.2% in August compared to the month before, bringing the total figure to $284.7 billion, according to a report by the US Census Bureau released on Wednesday.

Excluding transportation, new orders rose 0.4% month on month, while excluding defense, they went down by 0.7%. Machinery led the increase, rising 0.5% to $37.8 billion.

Meanwhile, shipments of manufactured durable goods rose by 0.5% to $284.6 billion, and transportation equipment increased by 0.9% to $92.5 billion.
