Lavrov reminds Armenia of 'unenviable fate' of US dependence
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told TASS in an interview on Wednesday that the Armenian government should remember the "unenviable fate" of countries that relied on the United States.
"If they are relying on the United States, as directly follows from the statements of many representatives of the Armenian leadership, then perhaps they should look at the recent history of how the US treated those whom it sought to take under its wing, promoting its geopolitical interests in areas of the world far from American shores," he explained.
When asked whether Armenia could lose Russia, Lavrov drew attention to several leading politicians in Yerevan who would want such a scenario and are looking towards the West, adding that "there are many there who want to lose Russia and make new friends." Earlier, Moscow's ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, called on the US to avoid making statements and taking actions that could heighten anti-Russian sentiment in Armenia.
