US initial jobless claims up by 2,000 to 204,000

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending September 23 increased by 2,000 compared to the previous week's revised rate to land at 204,000, the US Labor Department published on Thursday.

The 4-week moving average decreased by 6,250 compared to the previous week's revised average and reached 211,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 1.1% for the week ending September 16, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment was up by 12,000 week-on-week to hit 1,670,000. The 4-week moving average tumbled by 12,250 on a weekly basis to stand at 1,673,750.
