US rises premarket after GDP growth confirmed at 2.1%

Stock indexes in the United States turned to gains premarket on Thursday as investors awaited a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. In data, the US economic growth for the second quarter was confirmed at 2.1% on an annual basis, and the first-quarter GDP growth was revised up by 0.2 percentage points to 2.2%. Meanwhile, initial jobless claims for the week ending September 23 grew by 2,000 to 204,000, with the pending home sales report to follow after the opening bell.

The Dow Jones rose by 0.22% at 8:38 am ET, the Nasdaq 100 was up by 0.12%, and the S&P 500 added 0.19% at the same time.

The euro traded 0.40% higher compared to the dollar, going for 1.05461 at 8:39 am ET.
