Asia mixed as factory activity rebounds in China

Stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region traded mixed in the early trading session on Monday, as investors dissected the latest data which showed that factory activity in China moderately recovered in September, seemingly brushing off concerns about the stability of the world's second-largest economy amid the turmoil in the country's real estate sector.

Japan's Nikkei 225 jumped 1.41% at 4:35 am CET, while Australian S&P/ASX 200 was flat. The greenback was up 0.26% against the Japanese yen, changing hands to ¥149.7660, to mark its highest value since October 2022.

Stock exchanges in mainland China will remain closed the entire week as the country observes its National Day. In addition, the stock exchange in Hong Kong will not be working on October 2. South Korea's Kospi will remain closed for two days as the nation celebrates the mid-autumn harvest festival, Chuseok.
