Newsom taps Laphonza Butler to fill Feinstein's seat
California Governor Gavin Newsom (pictured) reportedly selected Laphonza Butler, leader of the EMILY's List, as the replacement for the late Dianne Feinstein in the Senate, Politico wrote citing people familiar with the matter.
Butler will occupy this role until the next senator, chosen through the 2024 elections, takes office. Dianne Feinstein, the 90-year-old Democratic Senator from California and the state's longest-serving senator passed away two days ago.
