US monitoring oil spill in Gulf of Mexico

The United States Coast Guard said on Tuesday that the "Unified Command continues to monitor and respond to an oil discharge near the Main Pass Oil Gathering (MPOG) company's pipeline system, known as the MPOG 11015 incident, near Plaquemines Parish, southeast of New Orleans" in the Gulf of Mexico.

The authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the incident, according to the Coast Guard. It also confirmed that the oil spill had not spread over the past eight days and that no impact was detected on wildlife and shoreline in the area.

Remotely operated vehicles and divers examined over 39.5 miles of the main oil pipeline and over 6 miles of surrounding pipelines, "with no damages or indications of a leak identified," the Coast Guard specified.
