Wall Street opens lower, Dow plummets 200 points

New York stock exchanges opened lower on Monday in anticipation of this week's data rollout, including final job reports this year in the United States. Investors will keep a close eye on the upcoming economic prints which could point to the direction of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy in the months ahead.

Following the opening bell on Wall Street, the US Census Bureau will post the October reading of the country's factory orders. The negative sentiment appeared to be fueled by additional layoffs Spotify announced earlier.

The Dow Jones Industrial plunged 0.60% or 211 points. Salesforce Inc. dropped 2.92% as its worst performer.
The Nasdaq 100 fell 1.01% as Marvell Technology Inc. declined 3.40%. The S&P 500 slipped 0.77% with Alaska Air Group sinking 16.91%.

The euro was down 0.50% against the American dollar, selling at 1.08252 at 9:26 am ET.
