UK blames Iran for Houthi attacks on ships

The United Kingdom condemned on Monday the attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea by Houthi militants. Two of the targeted ships are UK-owned and operated. "Iran has long provided military and political support to Houthi militants and it bears responsibility for the actions of its proxies and partners," a government spokesperson said.

"These waters are vital routes for global trade and incidents like these show the importance of the Royal Navy’s presence in the region," the spokesperson added, reminding that the UK is deploying air-defense destroyer HMS Diamond to the area in addition to HMS Lancaster (pictured).
