European markets close mostly lower after economic data

Major European markets closed mostly lower on Monday following the release of the latest economic data in the area.

During the session, it was learned that eurozone investor confidence increased by 1.8 points to a negative 16.8 points in December. Meanwhile, the German trade surplus rose to €17.8B in October.

At the close, the German DAX advanced 0.07%, with Merck being the best performer, up 1.89%. However, the French benchmark CAC 40 fell by 0.18%, while Teleperformance decreased by 3.24%. The FTSE 100 declined by 0.28%, as Anglo American dropped by 3.87%. The pan-European Euro Stoxx 50 decreased by 0.08%, and Eni SpA was leading the losses, declining by 1.85%.

The euro and the British pound were down by 0.54% and 0.67% against the dollar at 5:28 pm CET, selling for $1.08203 and $1.26240, respectively.
