5.7-magnitude earthquake shakes east-central Mexico

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 struck east-central Mexico in the state of Puebla at 20:03 UTC, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said on Thursday.

The quake's epicenter was registered 62 kilometers away from the city of Cuautla, with a population of 154,000 inhabitants, and 11 km away from Chiatlua de Tapia. The earthquake hit at a depth of 44 kilometers.

People reported the tremor being "short and strong." No damage or casualties have been reported so far.
