Shots fired near Jewish synagogue in Albany, NY

Two rounds of shots were fired by a 28-year-old man outside of a Jewish synagogue in Albany, New York, Albany police spokesperson Megan Craft told reporters. No one was injured.

According to Craft, the individual, who fired the shots outside of Temple Israel, was taken into custody, with reasons for the shooting still unknown. The incident took place only a few hours before the beginning of Hanukkah, a Jewish festival.

Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul directed the New York State Police and New York National Guard "to be on high alert and increase the existing patrols of at-risk sites." In the statement, she further noted that "the safety of Jewish New Yorkers is non-negotiable."
