Nikkei slumps over 1.70% on Japan's GDP data

Major stock indexes in the Asia-Pacific region traded mixed on Friday, with Japan's Nikkei plunging more than 1.70% following the country's latest gross domestic product report. In its second estimate, Japan's Cabinet Office noted that the GDP growth ran at a negative 0.7% in the third quarter, which is below the first estimate. The country also recorded a deficit of ¥472.8 billion in October.

The Nikkei 225 nosedived 1.74% or 570 points at 3:02 am CET. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was flat at the same time. At 3:03 am CET, the dollar traded 0.27% below the yen, selling for 143.34400.

In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite gained 0.21% at 3:03 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite added 0.17% a minute later. At 3:05 am CET, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng declined by 0.31%, South Korea’s Kospi Composite advanced by 0.73% at the same time.
