UN: Gaza's Rafah area getting worse due to overcrowding

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the occupied Palestinian territory stressed in its most recent update that the situation in Gaza's Rafah area is deteriorating as it has become overcrowded.

"Thousands of people wait for hours in large crowds around aid distribution centers as people are in desperate need of food, water, shelter, health[care], and protection. There are concerns of a breakdown in law and order under these conditions," the agency warned.

In such circumstances, people have been forced to "implement open air defecation, increasing concerns of disease spreading," it was noted in the update. The fear of waterborne diseases also intensified, as the lack of drinking water pushed people to consume water from "unsafe sources."
