Niger's junta ends defense accord with EU

Niger's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday the country's withdrawal from the European Union military partnership mission (EUMPM), revoking permission for an EU initiative designed to enhance the capabilities of the its security forces.

Earlier this year, the bloc suspended financial support and security cooperation with Niger in response to the military coup against the democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum. In the latest developments surrounding the crisis in Niger, the country accepted Algeria's initiative for a peaceful political settlement.
