Nine injured in German refinery explosion

At least nine people were injured on Saturday in an explosion at a refinery near the German city of Ingolstadt, local media reported. Over 2,000 people were evacuated from the area due to heavy smoke, according to a police spokesman.

The explosion in the plant owned by Bayernoil occurred in the liquefied gas production facilities and all the casualties are refinery employees. Around 400 members of emergency services were deployed in the area. The fire has been contained, according to local news agencies, but the evacuated inhabitants are still not allowed to return to their homes. The cause of the incident is currently unknown.
