Nissan extends closure of UK plant over COVID-19

Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. announced on Thursday that the production at its plant in Sunderland, United Kingdom, will remain suspended during April. Nissan halted production in its UK factory, employing 7,000 workers on March 17 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

"The majority of plant employees will be furloughed during this period, with 80% of their wages covered by the government scheme," the company said.

The Japanese automaker also extended the closure of its plants in the United States, which were supposed to resume work on April 6.
