No. 10: UK expects radical changes to NI protocol

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesperson remarked on Thursday the United Kingdom wants to see "radical changes" made to the Northern Ireland Protocol from the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement.

Meanwhile, the European Union's ambassador to Britain Joao Vale de Almeida stated Brussels feels "encouraged" by London's request for an extension of the grace period on chilled meats going from and to the aforementioned territory. "What we didn't like to see was unilateral action by the government in breach of what we had agreed. I hope that is behind us now," he said.

Earlier in the day, British Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary George Eustice expressed his optimism the UK and the EU will soon reach a deal on the rules for chilled meat included in the North Ireland Protocol.
