No additional checks on oil tankers required - US

United States Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo (pictured) stated that ships passing through Turkish territorial waters do not have to face stricter inspection, the US Treasury Department announced on Wednesday.

Addressing the Turkish regulation demanding oil shippers to prove they have insurance before sailing through Bosphorus and Dardanelles, Adeyemo told Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal that the price cap on Russian oil introduced this month does not necessitate additional checks.

A lineup of oil tankers formed around Ankara-controlled straits earlier this week, with Russia expressing concerns about the situation, saying it was being discussed with transport and insurance companies.
