Novavax vaccine could get approved in US in May - CEO

Novavax Inc. CEO Stanley Erck revealed on Monday that the company could receive emergency use authorization from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its coronavirus vaccine in May 2021.

Speaking to CNBC, he noted that 30,000 people will be included in the upcoming US trials, adding that the firm hopes that the FDA would take into consideration the trial data gathered in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and elsewhere.

"I'm not worried about lack of demand for the vaccine even though we'll be the fourth vaccine" in the US, he stressed, pointing out that the company has committed to supply the US government with 110 million doses by "June-July" and that Novavax has "advance purchase commitments" for 200 million doses outside of the US, "with the expectation that there will be a lot more on top of that."
