NYC to impose vaccine mandates for private businesses

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Monday a vaccine mandate for private businesses across the city, thus making the city the first to implement such mandates in the United States.

All private-sector employers will be covered by the mandate, with the program now requiring individuals to have received two doses of the coronavirus jab to be considered vaccinated. Furthermore, for indoor dining, fitness, and entertainment, proof of vaccinations will also be asked for children ages five to 11.

De Blasio labeled the measures as a "preemptive strike" to further stop the spread of COVID, saying that the focus is on maximizing vaccinations quickly in order to "get ahead of Omicron and other challenges related to the pandemic." The measures are set to be enforced from December 27.
