OPEC reportedly pushes oil states to refuse COP28 pacts

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) member states sent a letter to its member countries urging them to stay away from accepting any deal related to fossil fuels during the ongoing 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), The Guardian reported on Friday.

According to the media, the letter warned these countries with "utmost urgency" to "proactively reject any text or formula that targets energy, ie fossil fuels, rather than emissions" during the COP28 that will finish on December 12 in Dubai.

Although the British media did not verify the authenticity of the documents seen, it emphasized that the OPEC is concerned about oil and gas pacts that may "put people's prosperity and future at risk."
