Over 200 dead in Turkey, Syria after earthquake
At least 207 people have died and over 1,000 were injured in an earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday. Hundreds of buildings have also been destroyed in both countries and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
According to the latest official data, 76 people died in Turkey, with 440 injured, while the death toll in Syria was 131, and 516 were injured. The number of casualties is expected to rise. Turkey has called for international aid as United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Washington "stands ready to provide any and all needed assistance."
