Pashinyan to attend Erdogan's inauguration

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will attend Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's inauguration on June 3, his office announced on Friday.

"The Republic of Armenia received an invitation to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan," the office's brief statement read. "On June 3, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will leave for Ankara to participate in the ceremony."

The news marked another breakthrough in the relations between the two countries, often impaired by Turkey's backing of Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis and refusal to recognize the 1915–17 events in Armenia as genocide. In recent years, there have been attempts at normalization, with Erdogan and Pashinyan meeting in-person for the first time in Prague in October 2022.
