Pastor Brunson leaves Turkey, heads for Germany

American pastor Andrew Brunson, who was freed earlier by a Turkish court, flew out of Turkey to Germany from where he will continue home to the United States, his lawyer Cem Hallavurt told AFP.

Brunson flew out of the Aegean city of Izmir on an American military plane and is expected to land in the US Ramstein airbase in Germany. From there, he will continue to the US Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

Local media reported Brunson is expected to spend two days in Germany before heading home, but US media say he will be home on Saturday. US President Donald Trump said earlier Brunson "will be home soon" and added that he did not make a deal to secure Brunson's release. "There was no deal at all. No deal," Trump told reporters.
