Pause in rate hikes possible after spring - Fed's Kashkari

Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis President Neel Kashkari said on Friday that it is "conceivable" that there could be a pause in interest rate hikes after the initial one planned for the spring, as the Federal Reserve assesses the impact of its actions on the economy and the effect of other factors. He confirmed that, "barring something unforeseen in the economy," the first rate increase should come in March.

"We need to see how the economy evolves. If the supply chains sort themselves out, if the labor market recovers more or more workers come back in, and we also have this big fiscal impulse from the US government stimulus that's also unwinding, all of those factors should help bring inflation back down even before the Federal Reserve acts," Kashkari said.
