Pelosi: House to vote on veto override on March 26

Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi stated on Friday that the chamber will vote on March 26 to override President Donald Trump's veto he used to uphold his national emergency declaration. Pelosi noted that both chambers of Congress rejected Trump's "lawless power grab," but he chose to continue to "defy the Constitution, the Congress and the will of the American people."

Pelosi also urged the Republican minority in the House to "choose between their partisan hypocrisy and their sacred oath to support and defend the Constitution."

However, Congress is facing slim chances of overriding Trump's veto as neither chamber seems likely to reach the two-thirds majority needed to pass legislation despite a presidential objection. Back in February, the Democrat-led House of Representatives voted to block the declaration with the support of 13 Republicans. Meanwhile, twelve GOP senators broke with the president and joined all of the Democrats in approving the resolution yesterday.
