Pennsylvania uni head resigns over antisemitism testimony

Liz Magill, the president of the University of Pennsylvania, one of the United States' first-ever universities, announced in a statement that she will be stepping down from her position "voluntarily."

"It has been an honor to work with our faculty, students, staff, alumni, and community members to advance Penn’s vital missions," she said. Her decision comes after the backlash she has been receiving following her testimony about antisemitism in Congress given on Tuesday.

During the testimony, Magill failed to give clear answers on whether the protests on campus "calling for the genocide of Jews" are violating Penn's code of conduct. After that, a bipartisan group comprising over 70 Congress members forwarded a letter to board members of Penn, Harvard University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, demanding their presidents resign, while also urging them to "provide an actionable plan to ensure that Jewish and Israeli students, teachers, and faculty are safe on your campuses."
