Peru's Congress refuses to advance election for 3rd time
The Peruvian Congress rejected for the third time a bill allowing the presidential election to move forward and be held this year. After five hours of debate, 75 lawmakers voted against legislation to hold an election in July, with only 48 votes in favor.
There will be another attempt to advance the election on Friday as mass demonstrations continue across the country, with protestors demanding new elections. The protests were triggered by the deposition of President Pedro Castillo, after he attempted to dissolve the Congress in December.
