Police guard Hong Kong airport; train stations blocked

Security was ramped up on Sunday at main transportation facilities in Hong Kong after a day of clashes with protesters demanding democratic reforms and transparency. The main railway station and the airport were filled with police officers to maintain the flow of passengers in and out of the city province.

Demonstrators have vowed to strain air travel. They managed to block some stations toward the airport, preventing trains from stopping there. Bus services were also impacted. A crowd occupied New Town Plaza mall in Sha Tin. People trashed businesses related to mainland China including a Huawei shop. Pictures from the ground showed a group trampling China's flag and throwing it into the river. Protesters erected a barricade nearby and set it on fire.
