Police reopen Salisbury road after false alarm

Salisbury police said on Thursday they have reopened the road near the Zizzi's restaurant after they concluded the reported incident involving a man in his thirties was a false alarm.

"Emergency services were called to the scene at 6.20pm this evening (12 July 2018) after concerns were raised about the welfare of a man in his 30s. He has been taken to Salisbury District Hospital and fully assessed by medical staff. We can now confirm that there is no concern for either his health or any wider risk to the public," the police said in a statement.

They noted that had to take the "highly precautionary measure" since the incident occurred near the area where former Russian spy Sergey Skripal may have been poisoned. Earlier in July, a man and a woman were admitted to hospital in Salisbury after allegedly being exposed to Novichok, the same substance used in the Skripal attack in March.
