Pompeo: Berlin summit may reopen Libya's oil facilities

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday that the Berlin conference may result in opening some crude oil facilities in Libya that were blocked due to unstable situation in the country. The secretary also asserted that he hopes German Chancellor Angela Merkel will "have something that she can announce tomorrow," referring to a potential ceasefire agreement in Libya.

"The closure of some of the crude oil getting out ā€“ we hope that will be opened up as a result of this conversation as well," Pompeo stressed, adding that the US has "counterterrorism interest" in Libya.

Earlier today, Pompeo claimed it is crucial to establish "a lasting ceasefire and a return to a United Nations-facilitated political process in Libya" following his meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Berlin.
