Pompeo: China presents risk to US national security

United States State Secretary Mike Pompeo told CNBC on Thursday that China presents a threat to American national security, a fact that was ignored for a long time by previous presidents from both parties.

Pompeo stressed that the first and the most important aspect of the national security threat posed by Beijing are Chinese tech companies' deep ties to the country's ruling communist party. Washington's top diplomat disputed Huawei's CEO remarks regarding espionage issues and warned that by handing over your personal information to Chinese tech companies you are actually putting your data in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party. He predicted that more companies will follow Google's suit in cutting ties with the Asian tech giant, in line with suggestions given by the State Department.

Pompeo added that a separate issue in the US-China relationship, frequently highlighted by President Donald Trump is the need to establish reciprocal trade ties. He claimed that the two countries will continue to make progress in their trade negotiations, and pointed out that a trade deal would be beneficial for the whole world.
