Pompeo denies creating mistrust at Hanoi summit

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed on Friday that North Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui was wrong when she claimed he and White House National Security Adviser John Bolton were creating "an atmosphere of hostility and mistrust" at the Hanoi summit between the leaders of the US and North Korea, Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.

"They’re wrong about that," Pompeo noted and described his relationship with his North Korean counterpart in negotiations Kim Yong Chol as professional. He went on to say that he hopes both sides would continue the negotiations on denuclearization. "It’s the administration’s desire that we continue to have conversations about this," Pompeo underlined.

Earlier, North Korea's announcement that it is considering pulling out of the talks with the US prompted Russia to urge the secluded communist country to remain engaged in negotiations.
