Preliminary EU budget deal in works - Poland's Duda

Polish President Andrzej Duda (pictured) confirmed on Wednesday the "preliminary agreement" on the European Union's 2021–27 budget was "in the works," shortly after the country's Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Gowin said the bloc was "a centimeter away from working out a good compromise."

Speaking after a meeting with his Czech counterpart Milosz Zeman, who expressed his support to Poland and Hungary's requests, Duda stressed that "we want the Union to continue to be the union of free nations and equal states."

Warsaw and Budapest previously vetoed the proposal of the bloc's 2021–27 budget, which also covers the recovery fund aimed at combating the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, claiming it violated the rule of law.
