Psaki: Mutual return to Iran nuclear deal is goal

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday that Washington still sees "mutual return" of the United States and Iran to "full compliance" with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the main goal of talks on the nuclear deal.

Responding to a question on how much time will US President Joe Biden give Iran before he moves from diplomacy to other options, US Psaki insisted that diplomacy remains the "best approach" to the Iran issue and that a mutual return to the 2015 agreement is the "best available option to restrict Iran's nuclear program and provide a platform to address Iran's destabilizing conduct."

Ahead of this week's negotiations, US Special Representative for Iran Robert Malley noted that signs from Iran are "not encouraging." Meanwhile, Iran remained optimistic but insisted it will only strike a deal if all parties agree to remove sanctions against it.
