Putin decrees forming working group to amend constitution

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Wednesday that enabled the forming of a working group that is expected to work on proposals of amendments to the country's constitution.

Earlier today, Putin proposed changes to the constitution that would enable more authority to the Russian parliament and the prime minister, but underlined that a new constitution is not being considered. Among the 75 members of the working group are Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to have flown in space, and Yelena Isinbayeva, the two-time Olympic gold medalist in athletics.

Also today, the Russian government stepped down, while Putin nominated the current head of the Federal Tax Service of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, for the position of prime minister.
